The Whispering WindA Story by CookieA boy hears voices in the wind and must save a princess.Once upon a time, in a faraway kingdom, there was a quiet village where a young boy lived. He spent his days in the nearby forest running and playing. He played with the forest creatures, swam in the stream, and enjoyed everyday life as much as he could. It was a wonderful life. Still, the other villagers told him he shouldn’t spend so much time in the forest. “There’s plenty of work to be done,” they would say. The boy, whose name was Billy, often rested against a large oak tree and listened to the wind. Sometimes he could swear he heard voices carried in the breeze. The wind whispered secrets about lost treasures, hidden caves, and the history of the land itself. Whenever he told anyone in the village what he heard, they only laughed and said he had a big imagination. One afternoon, while napping beneath the giant oak, Billy heard the wind whisper about a hidden cave near the village. Long ago, the villagers had survived a terrible storm by sheltering inside it. Billy thought that if he found the cave, he could finally prove the whispering wind wasn’t just in his head. He searched, following the faint whispers, until he found it. Inside were relics from a time long gone. He gathered a couple of bowls, a knife, and an ax and carried them back to the village as proof. “Look what I found!” Billy exclaimed. “The wind told me where to find it!” The villagers were surprised he had discovered the cave. Its existence had been mentioned only in the stories of their forefathers. They told Billy how lucky he was to have found it, but they still didn’t believe the wind had guided him. Billy knew the truth, even if no one else did. One day, while eating lunch beside the giant oak, Billy heard the wind whisper again: “Find the girl in the golden cloak. She holds the key to the king’s sorrow.” “The king’s sorrow?” Billy thought. “Everyone knows that story.” The king’s daughter had disappeared years before, and the king had been heartbroken ever since. “Is the wind telling me how to find her?” he wondered. He listened for more, but the wind fell silent. The next day, he returned to the oak tree. As he ate his lunch, the wind rose again. This time it told him to travel deep into the forest, to go east until he reached a river. There, he would find the king’s daughter. Billy packed his bag and set off. He was nervous"he had never gone deep into the forest, and few had ever returned to tell about it. But Billy was brave. If the princess was truly there, he had to try. When darkness fell, he made camp. The sounds of the deep forest were frightening, but the wind whispered to him through the night, keeping him company. At daybreak, he continued east and soon reached a river. Beside it stood a small cottage. Billy approached and knocked. A beautiful young girl wearing a golden cloak opened the door. Behind her stood an old woman who could barely walk. “Are you the king’s daughter?,” Billy asked.. The girl looked confused. She had only ever known the cottage and the old woman who raised her. The old woman spoke. “I found her wandering alone in the dark forest years ago. I brought her home and raised her as my own. No one ever came for her.” “Our king has been distraught ever since she disappeared,” Billy told her. “He has searched everywhere. He will be grateful that you rescued her and cared for her all these years.” Billy prepared a cart for the old woman, and together the three of them traveled back through the forest toward the castle. Along the way, Billy told them stories of the kingdom and about the whispering winds that had led him to the princess. When they arrived, they requested an audience with the king. Billy told him everything"the whispers, the journey, and how he had found the king’s daughter. The king was overjoyed. For the first time in years, he felt true happiness. He rewarded Billy with bags of gold and held a feast in his honor, inviting everyone from Billy’s village. The villagers were proud that one of their own had become a hero. To show his appreciation the king asked the old woman to continue caring for the princess and she was given a home in the castle with every comfort she could need. The king was happy again. The princess was home. Billy was a hero and everyone lived happily ever after. The End --- © 2026 Cookie |
