Look Who Went To The Farm! The Adventures of Jake, Willard and WinstonA Story by CookieThree friends look for adventure on the farm only to find a big pain in the end.
Once again, we find our playful trio"Jake, Willard, and Winston"hanging out by the big red fire hydrant beside the alley. They were feeling restless. They loved adventure, and today felt like the perfect day for something exciting.
“We’ve got to do something fun,” Willard complained. “We haven’t had any excitement in forever!” “Well,” Jake said with a grin, “I overheard our people talking last night. They said we’re going somewhere tomorrow. A place called… a farm. And they said we would love it!” “A farm?” Willard asked. “What’s that?” Winston, who always tried to stay calm and sensible, replied, “I’m not completely sure. But if our families are taking us, it must be nice. You two can run around, and I can enjoy a relaxing break.” Jake wagged his tail. “They said we’re going tomorrow. So let’s rest up. Adventure awaits!” Bright and early the next morning, the families loaded everyone into their cars and headed down long country roads. Jake, Willard, and Winston could barely sit still. As soon as they arrived, the dogs were let out into the huge grassy yard. Willard zoomed in circles immediately"he couldn’t help it. Little dogs get very excited. “What do we do first?” Willard asked. “Let’s explore!” Jake said. “There’s got to be something fun around here!” Winston sighed, but followed. Someone had to keep an eye on the other two. The three wandered toward a big red building. Jake had heard humans call it a barn. As they approached, they noticed several birds pecking around the yard. “What are those?” Willard whispered. Jake stepped forward politely. “Hello!” But the chickens didn’t speak dog, so they kept pecking. Willard felt ignored and began yipping and hopping around. Suddenly the rooster gave a loud crow and puffed up his feathers. He did not want to be disturbed! Willard squeaked and ran behind a hay bale. Jake and Winston giggled. “I think they’d like some quiet time, Willard!” Jake called. “I’ll… um… be more careful,” Willard said, brushing straw off his fur. Inside the barn, the dogs heard something big moving in a stall. “Hello?” Winston said politely. “We’re just visiting! We don’t mean to bother anyone.” Behind them came a chuckle. It was the farm dog"Rufus. He was friendly, brown, and looked like he knew the place well. “You must be the city dogs,” Rufus said with a grin. “I’m Rufus. Welcome to the farm!” “We were looking for some excitement,” Jake said. “Oh, I can help with that,” Rufus said happily. “Come on. There’s someone I want you to meet.” Rufus led them to a pen where a very large pig sat munching happily. “That’s Big Bubba,” Rufus said. Big Bubba trotted to the fence. “Howdy! Rufus tells me you boys like adventure.” “We sure do!” Jake replied. “Well,” Bubba said kindly, “I could use a little help. My bucket was left over in the corral by the barn. Could you bring it back for me?” “Of course!” Jake said proudly. Winston felt unsure… but followed anyway. The trio crawled into the corral and found the bucket. But just as they picked it up… Huff… huff… They turned around. A large bull stood behind them, staring curiously. Before they could react, the bull trotted toward them"fast! “Run!” Winston yelped. Willard scrambled under the fence first. Winston followed quickly. Jake dashed as fast as he could with the bucket in his mouth. The bull didn’t want to hurt them"he just thought they were playing"but he chased them in big circles anyway. With a final leap, Jake slid under the fence to safety. The three landed in a pile of soft hay, laughing breathlessly. Rufus and Big Bubba chuckled too. “Well,” Rufus said, “that’s one way to find excitement!” Jake, Willard, and Winston were exhausted. That was enough adventure for one day. They limped happily back to the farmhouse, where soft blankets and warm food awaited them. Winston sighed contentedly. “Let’s maybe ask more questions… next time someone offers us excitement.” Jake and Willard nodded, smiling sleepily. The three curled up in their cozy beds, dreaming of friendly chickens, barns full of hay, and the wild excitement of farm life. © 2025 Cookie |
