Look Who Met The Ducks From The Docks! The Adventures of Jake, Willard and Winston

A Story by Cookie
"

While still at the farm, the boys find themselves afoul of the ducks that run the docks.

"
Jake, Willard, and Winston had been loving their time on the farm. Now that Rufus the farm dog had become friends with all the other animals, everything was peaceful. The pigs were happy, the goats were happy, the chickens were happy " the WHOLE farm was happy.
After spending the morning playing with the children, the three dogs decided to spend the afternoon at their new favorite place: the farm pond.
Winston chose a shady spot under a big oak tree and settled down with a nice bone he had saved. Jake and Willard raced toward the water, leaping in with giant splashes to see who could go the farthest. They’d been doing this all week, and life felt perfect.
But just as they started to relax, they heard a voice behind them.
“Hey! You there! What do you think you’re doing in our pond?”
The dogs jumped and looked around.
Then they saw him " a duck wearing cool sunglasses, waddling toward them with two other ducks behind him.
“My name’s Vinny,” the duck said proudly. “These are my pals, Sal and Carlo. We’re the Ducks from the Docks! We come from the big city.”
Willard, being a chihuahua, immediately piped up without thinking.
“Nobody told us this was YOUR pond!”
Winston quickly placed a paw over Willard’s mouth.
“We’re very sorry,” Winston said politely. “We didn’t know. We thought it was just a regular pond.”
Vinny nodded. “Well, you showed respect. That’s good. We use this pond as a rest stop when we’re flying to and from the city. It’s like our little vacation spot.”
Jake’s ears perked up. “We’re from the city too! Well… the part near the city.”
Vinny looked surprised. “No kidding? Wow! City dogs out on a farm.”
Winston tried to excuse them. “We don’t want to bother you, so we can leave the pond to you.”
But Vinny waved a wing dramatically. “Nah, nah " you can stay! Us city folk gotta stick together.”
Still, Winston felt something was… odd. He leaned in close to Jake and Willard.
“I think we should stay polite and calm,” he whispered. “Then once they rest a bit, maybe they’ll fly on.”
Jake agreed. Willard, for once, stayed quiet.
“So,” Vinny said, floating proudly on the pond, “what’s life like for you city boys?”
That was all it took. Jake, Willard, and Winston told the ducks all about their adventures " running from the dog catcher, exploring downtown, and coming to the farm. The ducks quacked with laughter at their stories.
When the dogs finished, Vinny flapped his wings. “Sounds like you’ve had quite the adventure! As for Rufus the farm dog " he scared us once by accident, so we’ve been avoiding this place. But if he didn’t mean any harm, good! We’d rather have friends than trouble.”
Winston said, “Rufus is really sorry. He didn’t know he scared anyone. He’s learned to be kind.”
“That’s what I wanted to hear,” Vinny said. “Alright, boys " we’re heading back to the city. You ever visit the docks, look us up! We’ll show you around.”
With three big flaps, Vinny, Sal, and Carlo lifted off the pond and soared into the sky.
The dogs rushed back to the barnyard and told the animals what happened.
“You actually talked to the ducks?!” the goat bleated.
“And they didn’t prank you or steal your snacks?” the rooster asked.
Rufus the farm dog sighed with relief.
“Thanks for helping clear things up. I didn’t mean to scare them. I’m glad everyone’s friends again.”
The rooster nodded. “You three always find a way to bring folks together. You’re welcome on this farm anytime!”
Jake, Willard, and Winston happily trotted back to the farmhouse and spent the evening snuggling with their people. Their time on the farm would end soon, but they knew they would never forget the friends they made " or the Ducks from the Docks.
The End
