for i have plucked the sky from its throne

for i have plucked the sky from its throne

A Poem by Daniel Atkinson
"

my first in a long while.

"

am i of jesus' kin?

call it sacrilege but

to be born into this world

unexpectedly

without explanation

denotes a divinity of sorts,

a holiness that chews at

mildewy tendons

and

curling toenails.

i have prayed for a change

plucked the sky from its throne and

whispered to it promises and pleas

but oh,

to be tortured.

to live in a cage of fire.

to die as a sinner.

to never be born

again.
