I Can Write Dark Endings Too

I Can Write Dark Endings Too

A Poem by CH Archive
"

Just how I felt today.

"

Today I just can't shake this terrible feeling.

A feeling of complete plastic innocence.

To be covered in a beautiful scintillation from a glass shell

Only to be coated with an onyx shroud of oil.

The dusky reflection from my mirror's greying metal plays with my hair

Its rusted fingertips try to be so inconspicuous in the groggy gloaming

I know they will never tell me the truth.

All that lies below me is just a sanctuary of green.

Mossy undergrowth sticking out through a sea of melancholy

Vacillating an immense glow from the towering woodlands.

And now for once in my life I can finally feel everything…

Everything holding me back from its brilliant promises.

I know I don't belong down there.

Down there with all of its beautiful mutations and authentic colours

The shadows of my darkest thoughts will just cloud mating season.

Today I decided to go for a run on the boardwalk.

I noticed something on my fourth lap around the splintering dead grove

The carcass of a seagull was floating  in the murky pond

Covered ever so carefully with a decaying brume.

It had the most honest grin plastered on its face.

A grin that told me that I'm the only one who's afraid

A grin that ruined my whole week.

I decided to write this poem after I went for a jog today and I saw a dead seagull in the water along the boardwalk. For some reason it just ruined my whole day.

I loved the ending with the grinning seagull, except I literally imagined one :) ha ha. This was a good poem, showing the perspective of, I guess, a pessimist or a depressed person. Good work

Something similar has happen to me before. Of course, i live no where near a boardwalk like you do, lucky, but it was the same concept. I was walking down the side of the road near this long ditch and suddenly came face to face with this dead cat. It was horrible and just ruined my day for some reason. I think it was the look on the cats face because I could not only see the cats fear, but I could also feel it too. *shivers* It was very creepy and afterwards I just couldn't stop thinking about it. urh... very creepy it still creeps me out to this day.. lol

As much as I like your poems individually, seeing them as a collective (I've been catching up on my read requests) I've noticed that you recycle alot of your words and images: plastic, onyx, sanctuaries and apocalyptic visions. Then again, you write so often it would be hard to make each poem completely original. By itself though, good work.

"will just cloud mating season. " great line. There are a lot of adjectives and use of color in your descriptions... almost too mucky. Try trimming it a bit? Better to have too much than too little though :)

Wow, that sucked for you. Good work, no changes needed.

It is only natural to fear death the great equalizer. It waits in earnest for us does it not. I hope you dont let it dwell too much enjoy your youth .death laughs at us but life laughs with us

This is... interesting. But well written.

Its quite an experience with the seagull.... with a smile that appears to be stuck on the face even in death. Nature does these things with some obvious objective but it appears to have drawn out an expression that was latent in your sensations. Every moment is a learning opportunity. It all adds up to something quite wonderful.

the ending was intense:
It had the most honest grin plastered on its face.
A grin that told me that I'm the only one who's afraid
A grin that ruined my whole week.

good job.
