Dogberry

Dogberry

A Poem by CH Archive

Dogberry

The sun, japan-red, salmon,
Pinched by the scissortooth branch
Held up like a connoisseur, an appraisal officer
Versus October sky - who wears the color better?
Blood red, cherry red, a tint of orange,
We used them as bullets, tiny and hard
Flung them from slingshots in my backyard
The dogberry is a multi-purposed weapon;
My grandfather made wine out of them
Had the whole operation right in his kitchen
Drank a glass every night in autumn,
And although I thought it tasted bad
It made him happy

So long live the dogberry
Long live the dogberry.
