My Black JesusA Poem by Colettesomething to believe in
you remind me of my past
of my future
those hands
that small laugh
names and streets
impossibilities
a picture is worth a thousand words
those hands
i want to reach into the photo
and hold them
put my fingers between yours
kiss your knuckles
suck your thumb
i want to love you
but i don’t know what to believe in
myths and religions
betrayals and forgiveness
East coast, West coast
Midwestern purgatory
i’m just trying to find my sun
deaths and resurrections
dreams and premonitions
a pinky swear of 10 years gone by
two sides of the globe
one side of a coin
to Egypt we went
pyramids and pharaohs
Cleopatra and cats
#2 pencils
bananas and hats
you remind me of how i want nothing
and everything
just something to believe in
