Put the key in the lock and turn it.
No hesitation.
No fear.
The lock clicks, and the latch springs open.
For a moment there is silence.
Maybe you’ll be okay.
Maybe you’ll be safe.
But then you’re enveloped in darkness.
You scream and cry out,
Hoping that someone will hear you
But no-one does.
You’re drowning.
Maybe you’ll be rescued,
But you know you won’t be.
You’re lying.
You’re dying.
Falling, you try to prevent it.
You can’t escape it.
You know that now.
Warm arms encircle you,
Cold lips descend on you,
And sinful memories of days gone by
Re-surface to haunt you.
No hesitations as you kiss the icy lips,
So hot you shiver at the touch.
No fears as you allow the caresses,
Which are wrong
Which are sins.
Then, it’s gone.
The touch,
The words,
All.
You’re alone.
You cry.
Noises muffled by the screams of despair.
You don’t know why you let it happen.
You should have prevented it.
Perhaps you could have prevented it .
But you didn’t.
Now, the silence deafens you
Just to confirm the harsh reality.
Alone.
Alive.
Afraid.
---
A Pandora’s Box.
Put the key in the lock and turn it.
You chose to hesitate,
You chose to pretend
And now you feel it.
Fear.
