ThanatophiliaA Poem by Cass Ashe
Beautiful and calm as a spring sunshower,
Cooling drops speckle my warm body Until I am veiled in dew and flowers That slowly grant peaceful stasis to me. Heat from within and cold from without, Harmonizing silently in the bright void between A moment and eternity, free of doubt And unshackled from the bounds of certainty. Neither awake nor asleep in this bliss Yet detached from emotion altogether, Knowing that I am loved and loveless Upon the moment I sever the final tether. Not a lust nor an infatuation, but a draw. As if pulled by gravity in space’s expanse And freely flowing like water from thaw. If I have ever loved, I feel it in our dance. You seduce me to finality, ye Angel of Death, The Angel I fear, but Death takes my breath. © 2023 Cass Ashe |
