Proposing Dreams...A Story by G. Anderson
Maybeth feels as if she's walking on lavish French cushions, and her breath comes quick and strained, even in the muggy summer night. Goosebumps prick her skin with a hair-lifting breeze, and she hears content crickets and restless nocturnal animals. A pair of footsteps gently knead the soft, brown earth, and the bushes sway and rustle as her and Tyler weave through the vernal forest. His large, warm, calloused hand grasps hers protectively, and her heart races. Her long, taut limbs show milky white under the moon's glare, the scattering of freckles nearly camouflaged. Her red hair blends with the subtle cloak of darkness, along with her sandy clothes. Maybeth's eyes grow wide in the dimming light.
"Almost there, love," Tyler says softly. His voice is silky and soothing against the semi-silence, and her heart speeds up yet again. They meet the sandy, moist riverbank, and Maybeth inhales the thick scent of moss and water. Tyler turns to her, taking both her hands into his. the moon reflects in his sapphire eyes. "Will you marry me?"
