Did you mean "The moon used to shine on us" instead of "The moon used to shine us"? If not, I don't really understand that sentence. If you did, minor grammar mistake :) When you write poems, I feel that the less words to convey the same message, the better. So for "I wish everything could be like it once used to be before" I would write "I wish for everything to be as it once was". If that's not how you write poetry normally, don't change your style just because that's how I write. This poem is great and gets me thinking, because I have actually been trying to sort through my feelings with my girlfriend.

Did you ever record the song? I think it would be cool to listen to! And you are right, songs tend to read poorly.

I didn't record it, i'm not a singer. But I think the original version would sound better as a song.
