A Verse in 12 lines

A fence is a comfy place to sit,

For never offending, it's a perfect fit,

But, alas, as it cuts into your hide,

It's time to get off your a*s and take a side.

.     .     .

However, I'll warn you before you jump,

That again you may find yourself on your rump, 

But don't despair, as humiliated you sit there,

For, trust me, it's a position we all share.

.     .     .

We pull ourselves up and take a new stand,

Armed with fresh information, now in hand,

As change guides us to intelligent adaption,

Truly the mark of integrity in action.

It pays to sit on the fence when you don't know enough about the subject matter. Sitting on the fence gives you plenty of time to form an opinion. I have strong opinions about stuff I care about. I'm not afraid of ending up on my rump. Most people do from time to time. I reckon I'm a prime candidate for cancelling. PC, I'm not. Don't want to be part of that club. An interesting little write Dylan.

Yes, I agree, fence-sitting on important issues until one comes to an informed opinion (in other words, until continued fence-sitting starts to hurt one's butt) makes the most sense. Sadly, so many folks don't bother with the info-gathering step before "leaping" to conclusions.

Now here's an instance where I do not agree with your core statement, but I absolutely LOVE the way you express it. This is convincing (altho I'm too old & stubborn to convince). Thanks chum, for one of the most thoughtful feedbacks I've ever received. For my ears, there's no more welcome compliment than your "strong storytelling" mention :)
Also, I don't think we're so very far apart on fence-sitting. I'm not suggesting that it's a comfy place to "remain," ...but just until it' becomes a pain in the butt to Not take a side, basically just good old "sensibly-adaptive" human nature/behavior is how I see it. We can't always be "on top" of every issue, I think sometimes it takes a little "butt motivation." haha

Indeed, do take a stand. At the same time, stay away from Twitter. Some variety of canceler will get you sooner or later.
