a Verse in 12 lines

I’ve a date with my

best pal’s widow,

and I don’t know

how to I feel.

So, to me,

I says to myself,

quit your thinkin’

and effin’ get real.

You each, the other,

wish to be with,

so make your peace,

and seal the deal.

A very intriguing poem to say the least. I have never been in that situation and honestly am unsure if I would ever take out on a date an old friends widow. Though thinking more on it now it probably wouldn't bother me one bit if some friend of mine dated an ex girlfriend of mine. Well except for one of my buddies whose an absolute a*****e and who I have told him as much many a time. I wouldn't want him dating any ex of mine. Haha.

Hi barleygirl ...Yes, funny, I've since heard it's a common thing. Therein lies fodder for another poem, needing more lines than my 12 ...Phew! :)
Yes, weird & difficult, like maybe trespassing where you shouldn't be, and not really knowing how to be.

Where I became aware of it was when I was being a do-gooder & writing letters to prisoners. One guy who sticks in my mind after decades was involved with another parolee who died of a heroin overdose, then married the guy's widow. Amazing twists life can take . . .
