a Minute-Play in 12 lines

Friday, after work: DingDong's Diner

Jill: "Ever play the stock market, Jack?"

Jack: "Yeah, the market beat me good, over‘n over, but I finally kicked the habit. Why?"

Jill: "My sister’s husband gave me a hot tip."

Jack: "First rule of investing, Beware of brothers-in-law."

.   .   .

Jill: "But, Larry says this is a sure thing."

Jack: "A sure thing is a no-such thing. And never, ever, act on a tip from a Larry."

Jill: " … But."

Jack: "No exception"s, pal."

.   .   .

Jill: "Okay, okay, Jack, I get it, thanks. But, tell me, What caused your market drubbings?"

Jack: "Classic wishful thinking. Perpetually hanging on too long after a nice run fades."

Jill: "Sounds like dating."

Jack: "Yeah, except you get a nice tax write-off for your heartache?"

As I said before, I can't imagine doing your job. However, after reading this, I may have been good at it, since it's always been easy for me to drop a friend or a lover or anything else that's starting to look like a loser (((HUGS)))

I envy you your ease of dropping, not so easy for me.
Yeah, knowing when your luck is about to run out, that certainly saves alot of trouble and if you play the stock market even more important. Being miserable as well as bankrupt is no joke. All about quitting when you are on a high. Now who can do that? My Dad and both brothers liked to gamble. The women in my family, far more sensible and canny with money. You packed a great deal in here Dylan. Well done.
