Perhaps There Will be Thousands of These Tonight

Perhaps There Will be Thousands of These Tonight

A Poem by Sarah Jane

We gathered round the mountains of food
I filled my belly with bread and turkey
Tried to fill my soul with laughter and prayers
I don't believe in the Amen's I mumble
But I mumbled along with the rest yet
My family is scattered this holiday
Lord knows where my mother eats and sleeps
My father no doubt alone at home
Guilt eats away at me no matter who's fault
I know, I know, not mine
A spirit is still broken tonight
Two spirits if you are counting correctly
I sit here tired and fumbling my fingers
Wasting the fog brained words on this paper
Trying to make something beautiful from emotion
I'm apologetic to all those alone
I feel just dreary and terrible for them
Even surrounded by family and joy,
I felt cold inside, like a deep sea fish
Stuck in my own thoughts, my own corner
Watching the world go on without me
I bid all a Happy Thanksgiving
May you feel full of food and love

Holidays can be hard for some people. Some people need a reason and purpose to celebrate a holiday. I like the honest feel in the description. Sometime we must call and talk to the people we care for and love. Kind words are appreciated. A positive ending to a excellent poem.

This is very powerful !!!! You bring forth very forcefully, the empathy for someone alone. You touch on your own feelings of aloneness, and yet very sympathtic for others in a manner only one that truly experiennces it can sense.
You have quickly become a writer that I really find has a very sincere "feeling" for it. Keep up your work ! It is great I think.
