Perhaps There Will be Thousands of These TonightA Poem by Sarah Jane
We gathered round the mountains of food
I filled my belly with bread and turkey Tried to fill my soul with laughter and prayers I don't believe in the Amen's I mumble But I mumbled along with the rest yet My family is scattered this holiday Lord knows where my mother eats and sleeps My father no doubt alone at home Guilt eats away at me no matter who's fault I know, I know, not mine A spirit is still broken tonight Two spirits if you are counting correctly I sit here tired and fumbling my fingers Wasting the fog brained words on this paper Trying to make something beautiful from emotion I'm apologetic to all those alone I feel just dreary and terrible for them Even surrounded by family and joy, I felt cold inside, like a deep sea fish Stuck in my own thoughts, my own corner Watching the world go on without me I bid all a Happy Thanksgiving May you feel full of food and love
