Standing

Standing

A Poem by Calvin Warden II

Lying awake in the field as the rain pours down on me
Drowning in the memories that I don't want to see
Reliving the pain that was released unto the world
As if I were slashed by a thousand swords or more
Feeling like a shark in the ocean that forgot how to swim
Struggling to keep the slightest grip on this new reality
But I know that you are there watching me for now
Just waiting to step up and offer yourself to me
To give me the shelter that I so desperately need
For the chance to raise up and finally catch my breath
To be free the chaos and being balance to the world
But for now I start by simply standing on my own
