TsunamiA Story by DaffodilThis was my perspective of the Tsunami that hit our island just a couple days ago, March 10th 2011.
My Marshmallow clung to the stick and it toasted in the orange flickering flame. Above us millions of twinkling stars decorated the night sky. would. 'You have to see this.' My friend's mum said bursting through the back door. We all ran into the the house and halted to a stop in front of the square black Tv. What I saw on that screen was heart breaking, horrifying. Right there and then I watched the live broadcast of Japan being taken over by giant walls of water. I saw people dying. Cars trying to drive away but only getting sucked in, people on roof tops hoping for a rescue. But this, this was not even the worst of it. The scariest part was watching what was coming our way. Several walls of water moving 500 miles per an hour towards us. Japan is just 3,850 miles from Hawaii. That made the estimated impact time close to 3:00 am. People flooded the roads, in attempt to get to grocery stores and gas stations. The civil defense sirens went off and continued to every hour. I went home, and fell asleep around midnight. What I woke up to was astonishing.
Road ways covered in sand. Cement and pavement torn up by the water. Businesses, houses and streets in inundation zones were flooded. Firefighters rescued a sea turtle that was washed up on to the road. Waters pushed through the main town all the way to our 'Walmart' built just 5 years ago. It damaged the newly built and strongly protested 'Walgreens' that opened just months ago. Several cars were flipped and pushed over. Some trees came down along with many other things. One house was pulled out into the ocean. Only it's rooftop visible, floating in the bay. Streets were closed, Flights were canceled, Homes were damaged. But everybody was safe, No fatalities. My heart goes out to you Japan. Keep fighting and you'll make it. And whatever happens, do not lose Hope, because with out it what else do we have left? © 2011 Daffodil |
