in plain sight

in plain sight

A Poem by Dale Pavolko

To think upon the quiet morning dew
That beads each blade of grass in fragile light,
The humble spider’s web, so finely drew,
Where silver threads catch dawn’s first gentle sight;

To think of tiny seeds that split the soil,
Of roots that seek the dark in patient grace,
Of leaves that turn to sun through summer’s toil,
And flowers that open in their appointed place;

To think of ants in orderly array,
Of bees that hum their gold from bloom to bloom,
Of sparrows flitting light from spray to spray~
All woven in creation’s patient loom;

In these small works, unnoticed by the proud,
God’s glory shines the clearest and most loud.

Indeed, the order that these works of nature suggest indicate the presence of a higher power.

Thank you John. I find every part of God‘s creation to be amazing.
You really are a terrific writer. Well done. You are a pleasure to read.

A gentle, beautifully observant piece, Dale. I love how you draw holiness out of the smallest details, dew, webs, seeds, wings, and let them speak quietly for themselves. A soft, reverent reminder that the divine often hides in the humble.
