Night of FlowersA Poem by Dale PavolkoFirst it comes with seductive power, redolent scent on nightshade’s flower. Shadows in the mist, sweet nothingness; dreams and things obsession brings break your will, take their fill, and sting. They slip into the purest thought, a blinding burst, unquenchable thirst. What do they bring? They bring the storm, they bring the flame that keeps me warm. Shades of red on blackened toast, honey drips slow; you sigh, I’m lost. Heady heights, languid nights, so tight. Burn me, turn me,"just don’t leave tonight. First it comes with seductive power, redolent scent on nightshade’s flower. Shadows in the mist I can’t resist; dreams and things obsession brings. While in these depths I sink, I sing, kissed by passion’s fierce and reckless lips that twist my will to fevered, broken bits. My wits have quietly given me the slip. Knots of silken cords entwine and bind; dangerous feelings feel so sweet, I’m blind. Nightshade’s flowers I devour complete. I am in your power, and your power pleases me. Yours are the only eyes I see; your whispered words are all I need. No torment here, no curse, I burst, I fly, I’m free. Singe my wings with molten gold as in glory I unfold upon my reckless quest of misadventure, into swirling chaos I still venture. At last I am consumed, nothing left to exhume. It started with a flower and ended much too soon. © 2025 Dale Pavolko |
