Self-DeceptionA Poem by Daniel AffsprungThe first thing I've written in a long time that i actually liked. Pretty casual rhyming here, thrown in out of boredom. Enjoy
A cool night by the river,
Accompanied by little, intriguing flames. Supplied by torches, And conversation. A relaxed and unconscious vibration. Sent rolling in pale, lecturing tunes, Unheard across my eardrums. The whole evening like a film, As the spooling reels unfold, and run ever faster. Until the social machinations fail, into a spiral. The audience dissipates, to their cars, and their beds. Ignore the stars, Forget the looks, But remember this night, It was one for the books. The trials and tribulations, Masked by tabooed celebration. Which carry me, heavily and laboriously, Into this new day. Which I begin in my favorite way. With an egg sandwich With sausage. For three dollars and sixty-eight cents.
