Somehow.

Somehow.

I saw you today, I brought you the last changes to the book.  You said you liked me to bring updates and changes to the stories. I guess that means you like them, although I couldn't get a straight answer about what you thought about the book.

I guess, I would put it like this. You would be a good poker player, you hold your cards close to your heart, not letting the other person know what you are holding. But I saw something in your eyes, a prolonged look at me that said something else. I could be wrong, but I don't think I am. I think you are holding back your feelings out of fear of the unknown. Not knowing what to expect if you showed your feelings. Somehow, I'm going to have to show you that it's okay to show someone how you feel and take the chance and let it out, otherwise you will never know what the possibilities are.

This piece feels very intimate, Randall. The way you describe that moment the uncertainty, the searching, the quiet hope gives the poem a gentle ache. I like how you use the poker metaphor to show how carefully people guard their feelings. There’s a tenderness in the way you read between the lines, and a courage in admitting what you think you saw. It’s a soft, honest reflection.
