You Asked.

You Asked.

A Poem by Randall

 Asked.

You asked, do I love you?

I said, I could fall in love with you.

You said, that's not what I asked.

I said, I would fall in love with you.

I just didn't want to go there alone.

You said, I wouldn't be alone.

You would be there waiting for me.

I see this poem kind like:
"You love me?"
"I mean, I *could* love you...."
"...do you?"
"Yeah, ya got me...."

There's this playful sway in the poetry as it lightly goes back and forth, with uncertainty melting into the growing passion of a meaningful relationship. I wish these promises of love had been more truthful in my own personal life. And perhaps one day I'll meet the one that gives this promise freely, and chooses to keep it. All around, this is a sweet poem, and a pleasure to read :)

I'm sure it would be a mutual and agreed upon relationship. Purely innocent, of course. I'm pleased .. read more
I have been on the other end of this, when the person tempted, I got there, and she was not waiting for me.
I hope the one addressed in this poem is being truthful and will be there waiting.
This reminds me of Robert Creeley....

Very interesting how this Piece twists back on itself, like a Riddle or a Puzzle. Really Excellent ✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️

Sometimes, I think poetry is simply a conversation with ourselves. Thank you, red93.

I love the way this unfolds, the question, the almost‑answer, the deeper truth beneath the hesitation. The final promise, that they won’t be alone, gives the whole piece a beautiful sense of safety and connection.
