Daniel saying goodbye to Mary, promising to return to her.A Story by RandallFrom my novel, "Mary and Daniel." Daniel drove up the three switchbacks, parked on top of the bluff and walked to Mary. He sat down beside her. He promised her he would always return to her. And his heart would always stay with her. He promised her, he would one day move to Wyoming to watch over her, as he knew she would watch over him. Daniel stood up tall as if Mary stood beside him. Daniel turned to leave, then turned back to Mary and spoke these words. "The first time I saw you. I knew, I loved you. And I believed, you also loved me. From the first time, I said goodbye Mary, and I thought I heard you say. Goodbye my Daniel, it wasn't just my imagination. I really was your Daniel, Although, I 'll never hear your soft voice say those words to me here. Someday, perhaps in heaven I will. I promise, I will try my best to live life for you, as if you were here. I will always return to you in life, as I will in death. I love you. My Mary." Daniel walked back to his VW Bug and drove down the three switchbacks. He got to the bottom and looked up. The sun kissed the top of the bluff and lit it up like Elijah's Chariot of fire going to heaven. He could see Elijah shaking his fist at God, asking why he had taken Daniel's Mary.
