"Home"

"Home"

A Poem by Randall

“Home”

Can I come Home?

"Where are you?"

Across the street, watching you looking out the window,

are you still mad at me?

"Yes, you hurt me with your spoken words."

I’m sorry, they were not meant to be cruel,

perhaps, I’m to Brutally honest with my words.

"Yes, perhaps."

Maybe I should write you a letter of apology?

"Yes, that would be nice."

Do you have a stamp I can borrow?

"Yes, come to the door."

Thank you for the stamp.

"It’s my last one, don’t waste it."

I’ll go now.

"Wait! I changed my mind, I want my stamp back."

Why?

"Because I might have to send my own letter to you."

Okay, here it is.

Thank you. I’ll go now.

"Wait!"

Why?

"Come inside and leave the door open. I want the neighbors to hear you

read your letter to me and my response to you."

Why?

"I want them to hear everything about our love, I want to make them jealous."

You know this is why I love you.

"I know."

takes a small hurt and turns it into a soft return. Through quick, intimate dialogue, you let apology, longing, and playfulness fold into each other until the tension eases. The stamp becomes a tiny emblem of wanting to be heard and wanting to be wanted back. And that final moment, the door open, love spoken aloud, gives the whole piece its glow. A brief, tender scene that knows how affection bends and still chooses its way home.
