"Number 2 Pencil."

"Number 2 Pencil."

A Story by Randall
"

A conversation with a new friend.

"
   Oh, hello.
What a nice day we're having.
Yes, it is very bright.
The sun is out, clearing away the darkness.
Oh, I was just walking in the field behind your,
Freehold land.
Are those your sheep wandering through the field?
They are, I thought they might be.
I could hear them calling in a distance, emmaaaa, emmaaaa.
Isn't it nice to hear sheep's soft voices calling?
You're right, it is such a joy to the heart.

Do you mind if I lean against your wall as we talk?
You don't, why, thanks I need a little rest.
It looks to be a strong wall, stone upon stone, built like
a fortress wall around your home.
Why, you say your parents built this fine wall.
You must have felt quite secure and loved with this wall around you growing up.
I can think of nothing finer than to have such secure love.

Leaning against your stone wall, I noticed what a lovely garden you have.
You say, you've done this all by yourself.
That's amazing, everything looks to be in its place according to height, even the colors blend into one another.
Just enough colors mixed in with the main color of green.
You are really talented.
I look at your garden thinking how wonderful it is to be able to touch nature with one's hands.
You must be very pleased.

Let me get a notebook from my satchel, so I can write everything down. I have so many questions.
Now where's that pencil?
It's funny how an 18 cm x 6 mm Hexagon stick can hide just when you need it most.

Oh, thank you, that's nice of you to offer a pencil to me.
You saved me, committing everything to memory, thanks.
Say, this pencil looks just like my lost pencil.
No, I'm not accusing you of taking my pencil.
I'm sure my pencil is lost in the field somewhere. Who knows, by now, one of your sheep has found it and is writing home to his mother that there is a stranger walking through their field.

You smile at that thought, you have a kind heart and a wonderful smile. But they are your sheep, and you know their writing abilities. So, I do understand your smile.

I do have questions for you, as you, are a gardener.
Like where do you buy seed? What time of the year do you plant? Do you use ladybirds to eat the Aphids from your plants? Where do you get your fertilizer? No, wait, let me guess the sheep. Yes?

Well, I suppose I should let you go. I've been bending your ear for a while, I'm sure you have things to do. The sun is setting and the morning will come much sooner than we think. I'll be going now.

Oh, one more thing, I bought some land by you. So, I'm your new neighbor, and your sheep, they may run anywhere they want in my field.

I'll drop my notebook off to the little lamb that writes, he already has my pencil. All you have to do is give him the postage for his letter to his mother. And please tell him I'm your neighbor and I want to be your friend. After all, they are your sheep. Yes?

                                               Your new neighbor...
