"Stone upon Stone"

"Stone upon Stone"

A Poem by Randall

I once built a stone wall.... Not very long, just enough to mark between here and there.... I made sure it had two flat stones side by side for sitting,... for talking,... and listening.... Sometimes I go there and sit, waiting for you.... Thinking you might just show up one day.... Sometimes waiting is the hardest part.... But I wait until the sunsets, and sometimes until the sun rises. I wait for you, looking over my land and yours.... Knowing God meant us to be together, no matter what others say.... The last time we spoke you said I was more courageous than you. Not true,... I just know what we have is too precious to lose... That is why I sit tall upon this stone wall, waiting for you. Knowing that your heart loves me,... knowing that I love only you.
I'll wait, however long it takes....
And if I wobble and fall,...
because you are not there to steady me.
Like Humpty Dumpty breaking into a thousand pieces.
I will lay there knowing...... you are the only one who can put me back together again.

Wow. Just wow. What a romantic. In this write the author paints the perfect picture of perfect love.
Sacrifice of one's self.
Everyone will relate. Everyone should relate.
To not fall and break into those thousand pieces, still waiting, that person is needed.
Beautiful and romantic. Depending if it's love or friendship. Clever write.

There’s a quiet ache in this, the wall, the waiting, the way hope becomes its own kind of prayer. Your imagery feels lived-in and tender, like a place someone could actually sit and breathe for a while.

Interesting Piece on many levels R - the crafting of the wall takes skill certainly, but is it a metaphor ? I am sure the significant other will return soon, to fulfill the dream state. Really Excellent ✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️

Thank you, Red. The real trick is not to lose your balance and fall off the wall like Humpty Dumpty .. read more
We can never depend upon others for our happiness, this much I know. And love is never given with expectations or ultimatums or else it isn't love at all but a trade. But love is not impeded by time or circumstance and I agree with Shakespeare on that point. Love is Eternal and the secret, sacred name of God. What if instead of saying, I love you, we said, I feel God in my heart for you? Then the liars would most certainly be easier to weed out. I enjoyed the read.

One of my favorite sonnets by the Bard. Happy writings, F.
Not sure if what we are seeing here is devotion or obsession. We are not advised as to why the speaker has to keep a lonely vigil. The speaker has no doubts, though, and will wait for as long as it takes. The beloved is the one and the only one. Such devotion can only end in either triumph or tragedy.

Such courageous words here. When your heart speaks and you know for certain you have to listen. Intense in its longing. Penned beautifully Randall.

Thank you, Chris. How do you measure how long it takes? Perhaps the same way God measures time. read more
The deep feelings in your writing are almost too intense, yet how you challenge yourself here is amazingly courageous too. How hard to apportion challenge with perhaps a sense of doubt. You write with a great heart and finesse, sir.
