_____________________________________________________________________________________________________ It was a nebulous night, as Damon Salvatore found Jeremy and Katherine. His car was crashed into a streetlight pole and Katherine was injured and still inside the car. Jeremy was fine though since he was getting out of the car. After Damon told him to get back to the house and he had left, Damon rushed over to the passenger’s side door to see the damage and get her taken care of. This was his fault. If he hadn’t told Jeremy to turn around back to the house where Silas had still been at, she would be okay. She wouldn’t be injured like she was now. He didn’t have to see her injuries to know that she was trending towards critical condition. He tried to open the door, but it was too crinkled and dented and jammed, so he used some vampire strength to force it open. Once he’d gotten it open, he scanned her with his eyes. There was blood on either side of her head, her right thigh was heavily bleeding from a shard of glass protruding from it, her lower stomach was also bleeding from a shard of glass, her right wrist had gotten cut from the glass from the shattered windshield, and she was very pale. He pulled the shard of glass out of her lower stomach and tossed it in the floorboard. He then rested gentle hands on either side of her head. “Katherine, can you hear me? Open your eyes. Unless you want to die, open your eyes,” he called to her, trying to wake her up. If she didn’t wake up, she wasn’t going to make it; especially, now that he saw that the back of her head was bleeding too. He took a hand away and used his other to gently pat her left cheek, hoping that would work. “Come on, Katherine; Wake up. You’re Katherine Pierce. You don’t get to die from a mere car crash. Now is not the time to be stubborn and give up.” After a few minutes of nothing, he stopped but kept his hand on the side of her face, his heart that he didn’t think could ever feel for her again, sinking. She was going to die tonight and he couldn’t stop it. He couldn’t feed her his blood for fear that the cure had consequences. He was helpless to save her. All he could do was watch her slip slowly away. He could try to save her, but he didn’t know if it would work. He took his hand away and put her arm around his shoulders. He slid an arm under her, his other arm under her legs, pulling her close and picked her gently up in his arms, being careful of her injuries. When he’d walked a ways away from the wreckage, he stopped, seeing that she was finally wake up. He gently layed her down on her back and gently took her jacket off. He then used it as a pillow for her head. When she opened her eyes, he knew that she’d lost a lot of blood and that she was in pain. He could see the pain in her eyes and she looked groggy. He wished he could take her pain away, but that was something that compulsion couldn’t do. He couldn’t compel her not to feel the pain of her injuries. Even if he could, dying or not, he wouldn’t betray her by using compulsion on her. “Took you long enough,” he stated. “Look, I’m sorry. This is my fault. I shouldn’t have tried handing you over to Silas. I thought it was the right thing to do. Silas told me that he knows where Stefan is. All I had to do was hand you over to him and he’d tell me where he is,” he explained. He rested a gentle hand on the left side of her face. He knew he couldn’t just stay there with her in the middle of the street and watch her die. He knew now that she had been right. There was a part of him that didn’t want her to die, but she was so injured that when he rested his hand on the left side of her face, some of her warmth had faded. He knew he had to do something. He took his hand away and used a strip from his shirt to tie around her wrist to slow the bleeding. “It’s okay, Damon. Just let me go,” she said weakly. “Don’t talk like that. I’m not leaving and I’m not letting you die. This is my fault, but I can fix it. I have to at least try.” She gave a smile. He was actually trying to save her, even when he knew it wasn’t worth it. His walls he’d put up because of her were crumbling in his attempt to be her hero. She rested her left, shaky hand on the right side of his face. “My sweet, innocent Damon,” she weakly said. “Always trying to be the hero for everyone. I admire that about you.” He silently looked down at her, knowing she was saying goodbye. She knew that she was dying. As he thought of what to say to her, they suddenly found themselves in some woods during daylight hours. He looked around at their surroundings. “What the hell?” he questioned, but didn’t move from his position. She dropped her hand. “Where are we?” she asked in susurration. “I don’t know. Some woods.” He looked down at her to see that she was starting to go under. “Hey. Katherine. Stay with me.” He gently pulled her into his arms and pulled the shard of glass out of her thigh, before using her jacket to tie around her thigh. Then he got to his feet with her in his arms. He had to get her to a hospital. “You’re gonna be okay. I’m gonna get you to the closest hospital. I just need you to keep breathing,” he said, before vamp speeding toward and into town. Once at the hospital which looked empty, he walked into the closest hospital room. He gently layed her down in the bed and got her hooked up, before putting a breathing mask on her and tending to her wounds. Half an hour later, he’d finished and now sat in a chair by the bed, her hand in both of his with his elbows on the bed, the back of her hand against his in worry, waiting for her to awaken. He’d taken care of her wounds, but they were so bad that he didn’t know when she would fully heal or if she would be okay. He knew he shouldn’t care if she lived or not after everything she’d done, but she wouldn’t be hurt if it weren’t for him. He’d broken his promise to her. If she woke up, he’d need to prove to her that he was sorry and that she could trust him with her life. As he sat there in thoughts, waiting, he heard people in this small town talking. He could hear names and smell the mixture of unease, fear, and curiosity. He knew someone would find them eventually but he didn’t care. He was a vampire. They weren’t. He didn’t have anything to fear from any of them. He stopped using his vamp hearing when he heard a lady say that she was going to speak to them. A few minutes later, he heard a knock on the closed door before a blond girl came into the room with some company. He raised an eyebrow at the guy with one hand and a hooked hand. He looked at both, sensing pure light in her, just as he had the first time that he’d met Elena. “We need to know who and what you are. It’s kind of the rule here. My name’s Emma Swan and that’s Killian Jones or Hook,” the blond said, though he could tell that she hated to intrude. “I’m Damon Salvatore and this is Katherine Pierce or Katerina Petrova. I’m a 150 year old vampire and she’s an ex-vampire of 500 years and me and my brother’s sire. She turned us both back in 1864.” “How’d you get here?” Emma questioned. “I don’t know how or why. One minute we’re in Mystic Falls, Virginia where we live, me trying to save Katherine after she caused a car crash, when she tried to run because I was going to hand her over to an immortal named Silas to find out where Silas has my brother, Stefan, at. The next moment we’re in the woods that I know isn’t the Mystic Falls woods.” “How is she human if she was a vampire?” Emma questioned next. “She’s a doppelganger and human again due to the love of my life in this century, Elena, shoving the cure for vampirism down her throat when Katherine tried to kill her. Vampirism was all Katherine had. Now she has nothing.” “So, vampires exist?” Emma had to confirm. “Yes, but not all vampires are as vicious as movies and books make us out to be. Now that I’ve answered your questions, what are you? You’re all human, but I sense that there’s something more about you,” he inquired. “I’m the Savior of this town and Hook’s a pirate. I’m also the daughter of Prince Charming and Snow White. Every fairytale you ever heard lives here in Storybrooke.” “And I thought Mystic Falls was crazy with all the hybrids, werewolves, and vampires. Nice to meet you guys. I’ll get to know the rest of the town after Katherine has recovered. We have a hate relationship but I still wouldn’t leave her unless she wants it. She’s been through a lot throughout her life. After everything the Original hybrid, Klaus, did to her when she ran to escape death at the hands of him 500 years ago, she shouldn’t have to be alone. She’s lost every friend she’s ever had plus her family, not to mention she’s made more enemies than I’m sure even she can’t count. Besides, I owe her. I tried to kill her a few years ago. Plus she was my first love back in 1864. I would’ve done anything for her.” “I can heal her. I have magic,” Emma offered. “Thank you. I’d like that, Emma,” he said. She walked over and took her bandages off, before magically healing her. Hook leaned against the wall, while Emma walked back over to the door where she’d been before. A few minutes later, Katherine woke up and gave him a smile. He took the mask off her and set her hand down on the bed, before letting go of her hand. “You saved me, Damon. Thanks.” “You’re welcome, but Emma is who healed you. She has magic. I guess this town has every fairytale here that we’ve ever heard of,” he summarized. She sat up in bed and looked at the blond she assumed to be Emma. “Thanks.” “You’re welcome. Come find us at Granny’s Diner when you want to get to know everyone. You can go to Granny for a place to stay. There’s usually one or two rooms open.” “We’d love that. Thanks,” she said to Emma, before Emma left. “It’s nice to meet you two. I’ll see you around, love,” Hook said, directing his last sentence at her, before following after Emma. “What do you say we get me a change of clothes and get something to eat and a place to stay?” she questioned her childe. She was human now, but he was still her childe. He smiled. “Let’s go.” A few hours later, they’d gotten to know everyone and all about Regina, Robin, Rumple, Belle, Snow, Charming, Ruby, Granny, and Henry and the others. In turn, everyone got to know all about Damon and Katherine and their world. So, after becoming friends with one another, Katherine decided to stay for good and Damon agreed after falling back in love with her a month later. © 2025 Datherine100 |
