The Black Widow

The Black Widow

A Poem by David Dodsworth

As I watch her spinning the web, I sense lonliness

For she was born to be alone, never to taste  true love

Her children divorce her, solitude becomes her only friend

Alone in this cruel world, she dreams of death

She is feared, yet she commands respect

Only the urge to reproduce keeps her alive,

and the urge is strong now

A new lover aproaches with caution, sensing danger, fearing death

No return now ,the ritual has begun, two become one

Once again she recieves the seed of life

Her fangs pierce his flesh with deadly venom,

For he will be her supper

She screams out ,knowing she must return to the hollow life, she knows well

A queen in her own world with no king by her side

The Black Widow
