From the crucible to the CrossA Story by DayranTales of the Aryan Imperative : IX
The experience of the crucible is by definition that of man. It is the body. From here to a representation of the intent of the divine takes more work. In that sense, a man leading a pure and pious life alone is not automatically made eligible for the intimacy of the divine. This is a significant development in man's understanding of his relations.
A cross indicates two varied directions in the way that the poles align themselves. Where one pole shows north and south, the other indicates an easterly and western direction. The choice is a matter of individual priority. For me, the choice is the horizontal, easterly and western and I engage that to cultivate my definition as human.
My choice indicates to me my place on the earth and the world and the way in which I live my life as an Asian in relation to the West. It consumes my every thought on the issue and shows the way to my social discourse.
Individually or when I am alone, I engage issues on the horizontal in a reflection of my actions and in the spirit of equality. It is here that the divine comes to engage me as the vertical, where it points to what's relevant today and what is being discarded. This refers to the normal and natural exercise of the mind when we leave it alone to its own devices.
What's being discarded are the old ways and the thoughts and priorities that accompanied that definition of form and meaning. Each day the output from my horizontal experience goes on to refine the vertical and it gets more coherent each day. The change takes place on both levels.
A failure here would leave me quite short of breath for the rest of my life. However a man's destiny is to try and to continue trying until he gets it right. It starts from the crucible and where I may have got that right, it provides me with some confidence on the issues.
