Meet The Rock

Tales of the Velvet Rock : I

 

 

 

 

 

A person may understand what a concussion is. What is harder to understand are the passions of a person who has lived an entire life in love with someone for whom he/she may have devoted their entire attention. It produces something in the nature of a rock in their passions. In coming to understand and relate to such an individual we encounter many curious parts.

 

Such a person lives in a world they share with their conjugal lover. It is a world that's made up of the home and family and the way that it relates to its neighbors, the society and the rest of the world.

 

A passion that is somehow shaped and ruled by a given set of social rules and committment, is not the flower of the valley. It doesn't get up to dance in boots at 3.00 in the morning because it feels like it. It waits for the county fair. It does this because it combines the passions of the spouse and children in its own definition of its life and happiness.

 

As the hair turns grey, such a person wonders about the way their life turned out. What mysterious forces formed its many branches, how did it go from one to another? What if anything have they accomplished?

 

A good friend with whom they confide may help. They can do this by teasing them, sometimes praising, maybe speak of lost dreams or relate to new inspiration. When we respond to these we find that we speak teasingly of ourselves as if we are weak in the knees for love, or admit sparingly of our accomplishments, maybe refer to dreams that came on us like a train and then gush excitedly at finding some jewel about ourselves.

 

We realize then that we are many things. That it takes many hands to unfold the different layers of our lives and put in context. And by spending some time viewing and understanding a particular aspect of ourselves, we sometimes see all of what we are. Some would say, a little bit like the world itself.
