' My Father's Work 'A Story by DayranTales of the Velvet Rock : VII
It is not uncommon for a person to experience a social identity based on what we perceive as the father and the mother in our experiences. As the individual, we find ourselves in between. The mother brings to us a passion that acts as initiator on our actions. The father brings an affirmation of such actions as perfectly fitting with our condition in that life.
Our experiences in this regard are referred to in the occult as ' celt.' It is a phenomenon that combines our experience of the sight ( logos ), desire ( sexual ) and understanding ( mind). It is however hard to say how it does that. A person undertaking an action on issues is hard pressed to discern these separate three parts in what he does.
In marrying and starting a family, he trades the sexual for the wife and the logos for the child(ren). In that the individual substitutes for the role of father in respect of wife and child, but in his mind he realizes that his actions are part of the greater activity of the ' father ' in the world.
In plain understanding of this simple fact, a person may in all innocence come to say, ' I am doing my father's work.' These days we say that quietly and in confidence to ourselves, storing the mystery of the experience for better understanding at a later time.
Our theology in these matters informs us that such is the experience of most people. That it is common with us and it represents both a way of life and a mystery to be solved that is shared by all. In that it unites us as a society and brings us to an understanding of our equality and common aims. It connects our common aspirations regarding God. It helps us to understand that we belong and may one day help one another solve the riddle of our lives.
To those of us who may have started to understand this, we bring some manner of that same understanding to others in our social engagements. In that, it leads to a greater understanding of ourselves as world.
