Dreams at Work

Mother had just finished baking

As usual she was talking to ' him'

' He ' said her mother is much better

But to leave the matter with ' him.'

She nodded absent-mindedly

Cut a piece of the pie for the brother

Then ' he ' said the baby might be crying

He had woken and was calling for her.

She brought the baby back to the kitchen

And placed him on the high stool

He's coming, ' he ' said and left

She heard the car pull up on the drive.

She looked up at the wall, it was 5.04

The door opened and then closed

' In the kitchen honey ' she called

He came in, kissed her and patted the kids.

He tossed around on the bed all night.

In Peter's room a strange light appeared

It filled the room and played on the walls

It viewed Peter in the crib then to Goofy.

The clock moved silently on the night stand

There was a music in the air like ' tra la la '

As if nothing really mattered, not really

Outside the stars floated in the night sky.

He wants to leave the job and start on his own

She told ' him ' the next day at the sink

' He ' appeared thoughtful and spoke quietly

Its Bernice and the dream machine, he said.

She returned to the table and sat down

Marriage is a huge commitment, she said haltingly

Its like a woman's life is made all over

Not more than its always been ' he ' replied.
