A Pie in the SkyA Story by DayranFantasyIts always been referred to as a fantasy … however in our present surge of interest in fantasies … and their relation to reality … we may be so disposed to take a look at it. Certainly every man brings himself to do that at some point. To continue to create an indifference to it would amount to a denial … and would call into question the remnant of the associated experiences we refer to as reality.
A man … any man … particularly one who is exercising his thoughts and creative skills … would come to observe a ' baby ' aspect to himself … that is constantly viewing itself in possibilities. When we sleep it creates dreams of such experiences … thereafter when we wake … there's a subtle touch to our pleasures that brings itself to view the dreams … in a quiet sensation of its pristine nature … that appeals to our sense of venturing into the unknown.
What a lot of people don't yet fully appreciate … is the fact that when the mind raises such a pie of possibilities in our heads … it has a reflective effect on the passions … particularly the subtle emotions. That stays in us … and produces an on off effect … a lot like that wonderful pie we ate at aunt May's house that we have not forgotten. It feeds into a great many other impulses … and in time grows into something quite formidable in our passions.
When did it actually seep into our passions? … at which point did it start to create an expression? … did we bring our attention to it at any time? These forms curious inquiries into the nature of our passions as a man. The entanglements it refers to at a later date … comes into the man's actions like a bolt out of the blue. That girl who thought I gave her the wrong impression … the boss who told me I needed to look at my attitudes … the waiter who grew impatient at my decision making … who me? … what are these people trying to say?
As a matter of policy a man maintains a clear convention regarding his behavior in public which he preserves with review and reconstruction. If I'm coming on too strong with the ladies I ought to cut down a little … But to claim that I am in disregard of social etiquette … my goodness! … I never heard anything more ridiculous! How many times have we said that?
Here's where a little time on our own in quiet contemplation becomes very useful. It could be any number of reasons. Childhood influences … the male impulses … hormones … the self righteousness … the faith or lack of in God … that time in my creative impulses when I'm being guided into new areas no man has ever before been asked to do. When was the last time I took a real good look at the society out there … and affirmed that I'm still normal in my attitudes?
Reading the papers … most men maintain that as a regular habit … and even grow over the years with a measure of assessment with what that particular newspaper reports as the times and to relate in some way to its views. A magazine that provides an in-depth write up of the events of the day … a fashion magazine that refers to what's catching the eye these days … a TV serial that encapsulates life in a certain part of the country. All these helps us to reflect on our own typical attitudes.
In leading ourselves into such inquiries … we can over time even come to perceive the content of the pie in the sky and perhaps to understand it better. It relates to the baby component … that baby component turns out as a previously fallen experience … that is now coming into rehabilitation … and what can I do to provide it with something new? Does it insists that … as a fantasy it has a place in our lives today? … in what way? … are we growing so big in our perceptions of the world that we put in position things we know and then as regards things we don't know .. we extrapolate from our factual natures … and cultivate some possibilities? What's my attitude about such possibilities?
In a final outcome the issues relate to us as a man … a father … son … brother … worker … and a member of society. We sometimes put our impressions in a story that relates to our life … or simply as a report of memoirs we experienced. It helps us to know we do things rationally. A man who creates an informed view of matters simply responds to an error with … ' I've got to work on that ' … nothing more nothing less.
