Good enough to eat

"

' So hungry … I could eat a horse ' … but I don't suppose anyone actually did … not in normal circumstances anyway. ' You look delicious ' … that's sometimes offered to the one we love … so beautiful she's good enough to eat. Of course the source of these cravings may be the habit from the mother's breasts … and the entree' referred to is milk … but the references to eating people has a curious place in our habits and expression.

I don't suppose I would have ever entertained such a thought myself … but I watched the movie ' Jurassic Park ' … and came away with a watchful eye for every corner and shadow … lest it be something that might want to eat me. What a strange thought! Perhaps it never … ever … occurred to us that we might encounter such a possibility. Not at all possible!

It brought back memories of a brief period some years back when I had some problems with fluctuating sugar levels in the body. I would suddenly get into a horrendously ravenous condition when I'll have to grab something to eat real quick and then get to the closest restaurant for a full meal. I was to find out later that it was due to my eternal friend in the human condition. When he gets active he scoops up all the sugar in the body and leaves me panting.

I never heard a better explanation from the doctors I had consulted. ' High metabolism ' is what one doctor said. Then I consulted my friend. He intimated to me that ...  at the time of creation … he was like a kid in his personality … entirely innocent and pristine in his introduction to life. And then the fears and panic attacks began. He's a resident of the stars and the universe … but in relation to human habits … and life in the world … he draws a frightful blank about issues … and gorges on the sugar in the body to stay even.

It gets worse when the individual in the human condition finds his situations equally perplexing. And so I learnt to live a little for both of us … creating a discernment regarding his behavior and mine … and bringing myself to comment on issues as and when it occurs. Its helped and my problem with sugar levels vanished. But I continued to keep a watch on his emerging personality qualities.

I had smoked salmon one time in a gourmet restaurant … and was completely swept off my feet about how good it tasted. In response to my inquiries … my friend intimated that … it was similar to the way the milk habit in man creates a dish of women in the male experience. And that … he suggested may have also brought on the practice of oral sex among couples. For him … it was the sight of pink colored flesh … it was his mother or something.

' Bears love salmon ' he had suggested … implying that his own descent into the world's experience from the stars took a route through the animal kingdom … as much as man. I was keen to test the thesis … but my sugar levels had stabilized. However … yesterday … I fell into a sudden starvation unexpectedly … and dashed to the restaurant for a meal. It wasn't quite it though. Then I remembered what it might be … I needed pink flesh … so I dropped by at the grocer's for something pink … but no salmon … so I settled for some spam. Et voila'! It hit the spot and I settled down.

I was thinking about Hanibal in Silence of the Lambs … and realized that society is always pointing to the issues in our lives … but we are otherwise disposed with regards to matters and are unable to receive the communication. Well … I suppose … something like this wouldn't be the easiest thing to communicate. To tell someone that among their fears is a primal panic sense of being eaten … which has nothing to do with the daily circumstances of their lives … would indeed be quite a trick. I don't suppose the vampire movies succeeded in that message.

' Know yourself ' said the oracle at Apollo. That message was delivered more than 2,000 years ago. Its possible we may have started to inquire into the nature of the self … and the mysteries of creation. Salmon returns to its place of breeding in the upper part of rivers … the same way its been doing for ages. However my friend says that he's less of a bear these days … in fact he's getting to be positively human … and is finding ways to express his fondness for people in communication … rather than simply wanting to bite their head off. That's a good thing … I think.
