Experiment

Experiment

A Story by Rachel Lieberman
"

Mission: Design an experiment to show wether or not watching violent television can cause violent behavior in children.

"

Definintions:

Violent Movie - Involves guns, blood, and hate.  Anything that would normally not be seen in a PG movie.

Violent Behavior - Physical violence (ex. pinching, hitting, slapping, etc.).  Attempting to harm another person or object.  Verbally injuring another person (ex. calling them names, etc.)

Control:  Children age 3-9 (boys and girls).  Movie X.  Movie X is an extremely violent movie.

Variable:  The children selected.

Group 1 - Randomly selected children.

Group 2 - Only 3 year olds.

Group 3 - Only 5 year olds.

Group 4 - Only 9 year olds.

Group 5 - Only boys.

Group 6 - Only girls.

Experiment:

-Set Group 1 on a playground and record how they behave.*

-Set the Group 1 in a room with a TV.  Nothing else is in the room as to not distarct the children.  Also record as to how they respond to the movie as it is in progress.*

-Play Movie X on the TV.

-Set Group 1 out on the same playground and record how they behave.

-Ask their parents to record if they see any odd/violent behavior not normally seen in the child.

* = note to see if any natural violence occurs before Movie X starts.  ex. Natural [before the child started the experiment] Rivalries, Natural Violence, etc.

~~Repeat this process with each group.~~
