Where it all began

This is the first poem I ever wrote, I was 8.

She cried as she looked into the midnight sky

She knew at that moment that she must die

So she lay down her life for the one she loved most

And at that moment became but a ghost

Her skin began to pale and her hair faded white

She watched him from above each day and each night.

Alright, So this was the first poem I ever wrote as a little girl, I was about 8. I remember I was so insecure about my writing back then that I would write them, memorize them, and tear them up so one would read them. I still remember it to this day.

This obviously isn't one of my better works but I thought I might share a glimpse of where all this began

Very dark and cold, Edgar Allan Poe like poetry...which I absolutely love. It also has a surreal touch to it, and I also love that. I never started writing until I was 12, which were stories. Then about three years later I started to get into poetry. You were beyond your years. Thanks for sharing.

Im glad you shared this one with us Shadow Poet for it shows you've made absolutely no progress at all - Im kidding -
seriously dear scribe, if I had been even aware enough to read this and understand this at age 8 never mind to conceive of and write it my dad would have thought he had a child genius on his hands and taken the toy truck that I used to chew at that age, off me and given me books instead.
Its a superior write for that age - in fact I will ask a teacher friend of mines what age she thought wrote this - would you be interested in their response, because i think it would be higher than 8.

Thank you so much, I've always been sort of goofy but my parents always told me I had an old soul. I would actually love to hear what age they thought. I just wish 8 year old me could have read this, maybe then I wouldn't have ripped up so many poems that I later forgot, This is one of the only ones I still remember sadly, but I still remember writing it, On hot pink stationary with a purple glitter pen. Yes, These words were once written in pink and purple, just let that sink in hahaah

i heard that saying before about old souls. I wish I had been. If anything I was the opposite - a 2 year old stuck in an 8 year olds body now im a 18 year old stuck in a 46 year olds. You are a talented young poet. i think you should consider joining one of the groups and see your skills flourish with challenges. How about the pairing up poetry group. A safe and friendly environment to practice collaborations and extend your skills. I feel you'd do well there.

Thank you so very much! You have no idea how much that means. Until yesterday no one had ever seen my work and now people are enjoying my work. I will definitely have to look into that group.

And there is nothing wrong with being young at heart. Age is just a number after all.
