A Poem by DecentlyOkayWriter
"

you said you didn't have a heart

"
the sound of not-quite-rock
face illuminated with the once-was.
you said you didn't have a heart.
and I don't know why I didn't
believe you when you were upfront

how it's gonna help me when I'm
too far gone to truly try?
I don't want to live together, knowing
we'd both just want to die

standing in the avenue
we used to walk this street
carefully, staring at the snuffed out
if I forget hard enough I can pretend
it's your own from when you smoked

really like the metaphor in the last stanza...would love to have seen that idea as springboard for the entire poem.
