Rainbows and Innocence...Disillusions Shattered

Rainbows and Innocence...Disillusions Shattered

A Poem by Deena Miller

Somewhere over the rainbow…
What a wishful song.
It reminds you of all the wistful fantasies
Of childhood
Of the adult wish
To return to innocence.

When were we truly innocent, anyway?
We came in this world a clean slate
And were rudely awakened by a firm smack on the bottom
Is that what we are to expect from life?
A kick in the a*s
A reality check
When all we want is a reassuring hand,
A comforting glance,
A warm embrace?
