Small Talk *[lies]

Small Talk *[lies]

A Poem by Dennis Shanaberg

“Why do you speak with nothing to say,”

I ask again

Almost every day.

Small talking

Without walking the same kinda way.

So critical

--hypercritical--

Of the one’s who speak

With phrases so uncritical.

I note that those around me

Know naught of who I am.

The implications of full irony

Due to the loathing in my head.

Am I not the same as them,

Saying it again on time, then time again.

Nothing lifting off my tongue

About the self that remains unsung.

Hypercritical

and hypocritical.

Oh--What am I?

To make my life a parody

Told with hasty phonics

And small talking lies.

I thought the poem was amazing. I don't usually go for poetry, but this one was different. It was true and I could relate to it. Truly wonderful and it is completely and utterly the truth.

I like real conversation. I like Monterey, California. At the coffee shops. Loaded with writers, musicians and artist. Discussed new and old books. Played the game of chess. I don't like simple conversation. I like the thoughts and reasons for the poem. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.
