Deplorable Twin Spirits

Deplorable Twin Spirits

A Poem by Dina

When the sun comes up, there is chivalry.
There is ego.
There are brave deeds.

But when the moon comes up
There is symphony
And tranquility
And there’s you and me

What I’d do for you, I’m afraid I shouldn’t mention
Goes beyond the need for redemption or repentance
I think someone told me about you, up in heaven

Saw a vision once, where I looked you in the eye
And I asked you,
“Love,
how come we let this pass us by?
knowing damn well,
there is nothing more to life..
without you
without me..
how could we?”

So I reach you through a message
In a bottle, in my mind
If I concentrate
I can hear you
Talking to me
Through a vine

It’s electric
But I can’t grip all the feelings
Stuck inside
So I slip away
While you melt away
Then our egos,
they collide.

there is an aching sweet melancholy to this poem that I find impossible to resist. The sincere, simple questions asked, not quite satisfactorily answered (which is a big plus in my book) leave the reader identifying with both you the poet-narrator and the other. The double edge of love's blade is razor sharp, it cuts, we bleed, but no one is ever quite certain who swung Damocles sword first.

There is a magic to this piece that just captures the essence of love. Its elusiveness and yet its ever presence. A wonderful poem Dina. Thank you for sharing your poem with us.
