You Understand

You Understand

A Poem by Diterling
"

More of a sisterly love than a romantic love.

"

I can't find the words.

As I cry, you wipe each tear from my eye and smile a bit. You keep the bit of me that's still happy alive.

I obviously love you, you know that.
But I don't know how much.
Rather...I can't describe how much.

You pat my head and say it doesn't matter.

But it does.
It does matter to me.
You do so much for me. I have to be able to do something so simple for you.

I stammer again, searching for the thoughts to take verbal form.
Yet again, I fail.

More tears come down, but you embrace me.

I stand, surrounded by your warmth.
Each eye dried by your shoulders and chest.

I apologize...
And as always...

You tell me it's alright.
You still love me.

And most of all...

...You understand.
