Check Yourself

Check Yourself

A Poem by Annabelle Lee
"

Heard about this guy saying some thing he shouldn't have about the Corps and then blocking a Marine for speaking his piece. I can't resist a good fight and had to put my two cents in.

"
As machine guns and explosives sing her father to sleep
She prays to someone her soul to keep
As he runs through minefeilds when day first breaks
She prays to someone her soul might he take
Maybe I don't know what it was like to be over there
But I know a man who does and boy, do I swear
Don't talk s**t about the corps
Because you have no idea what you're in for
Say something directly to one of the men
And don't you dare feel sorry for them
I know for a fact, you don't know what it's like
To be over there, fighting for someone else's life
You've never met my daddy, this man
Has been through way more than you ever can
You a******s who think you know who they are
Need to check yourself before insulting their battle scars

It's all about education, but when certain people think they are the smartest people in the room, they refuse to be educated. They feel they are correct, no matter what, and when you have people like that, there is just no getting through, unfortunately. I hope this got your point across to the intended target, and I am so pleased you shared this with me. I have a soft spot in my heart for that Marine, too. And, of course, thanks to your father for his service as well. I appreciate your writing this.

Except for the cussing, I really liked the poem, it totally hits home! I don't think people really appreciate what it's like to be in the military, to serve in the military - the things you go through and the sacrifices you make. This captures this clearly. More people need to be indebted to those who serve overseas. Thank you.

This was my favorite poem I have read so far. Good job. It bothers me when people think they know what marines go through. Some people dont realize how lucky they are to be alive. Thank you for sharing. Will be going in my favorites.

thank you.
this is a magnificent piece and i am thrilled to the core that you defend our brave and loyal servicemen in this poignant write. yeh, i remember the troops returning from the "nam" and getting spit upon and called names...the people who did the spitting and name calling are the worst kind of ignorant cowards. awesome write.

This honestly made me cry. My cousin is in the Marines and I honour him so much for putting his life at risk like that and all of his other men as well. This was a great piece, props to you my friend! :D Your argument was great! :D

Wow. I'm genuinely touched. Thank you so much annebelle. Incidents like that put into perspective what the Vietnam vets went through when they came home. Those guys got spit at and called things like "baby burner." I'm sure you've heard the line about the military taking advantage of "dumb niave kids." That started with Vietnam because of the college draft deferment which IMO was unfair. With the all volunteer force we have now it's a different story. Go talk to a Cobra gunship pilot and see how "dumb" he/she is. A lot of people can't fathom the determination it takes just to get through basic training let alone the standards the corps held us to.
It's just not in them.

Hello everyone I am Annabelle Lee. I am FINALLY, after June 12, the ripe old age of fifteen. I'm a poet. I want to write novels, as well, but those do not belong on this site in hopes that someday .. more..
