Misunderstood

Misunderstood

A Poem by Annabelle Lee

“Don't walk behind me; I may not lead. Don't walk in front of me; I may not follow. Just walk beside me and be my friend.”-Albert Camus

I need not control anyone
For I've none over myself
But trust me, I'll let you know
When I need help

Don't outshine me
Or put me in the corner
I'm not simply
A backstage performer

You think me easily tamed
I can do whatever you want
But that's not who I am
And this s**t needs to stop

You either follow me around
Or expect me to do so
And I'm just getting lost
Never sure where to go

I don't want you to drag me round by my collar
Nor ride my coattails
But apparently it's one or the other
Or our friendship fails

Because God forbid we coexist
And act like real friends should
Treat each other like equals
And not be misunderstood

Letting people manipulate us just drives us crazy as much as them always wanting to follow our lead...if we can find friendship and love on an even keel of give and take that would be sheer perfection, alas, that's hardly real life....love this one Annabelle!

you have the will to submit or not ~ it depends on the situation ~ i guess on the way you put in your words ~ it's not good ~ every friends should equally treat each others ~ we are not puppets for their own bidding ~ well expressed thoughts my friend ~

thank you
Friends not being too friendly? I know I hate watching friendships involving people I'm close to slowly dissolve or go through rough patches. That's some rough stuff to watch. Even worse to go through personally, I'd imagine.

equal yet separate....depending on the circumstance...pah! won't fly with me either. be my friend thru thick and thin or hit the freekin road...some folk just give up with the slightest of discomforts and call you traitor because you remain true to yourself. guess what...they are poseurs and not worth your time or indulgence...and yet they go on believing they are just and correct....get rid of them, they are dog filth on your shoe. awesome write....

Some good rhymes here dog. There are some people in our lives we wonder why we even talk to them let alone call them a friend. Then one fine day they're on and you realize why you put up with all their s**t, because you love them.
