Forty Seven Years

Forty Seven Years

A Story by Donna
"

A beautiful friendship!

"
We met in the first grade, he was a cute boy with blonde hair, blue eyes. His name was Sean and he lived a few blocks down the road from my house.
After school we played together and rode our bike and didn't have a care in the world. One of my neighbors, Mike went to school with us and he rode bikes with us too.
When we were in the sixth grade, Sean rode his bike to Mikes house and told him, "Mike, What do you think Donna would say if I asked her out to a movie?" Mike looked at him and said, "How would I know? Just ask her!" Sean left and rode his bike back and forth passed my house in hopes I would see him and go outside. He finally gave up and went home.
I knew Sean liked me and I liked him, but we were both to shy to tell each other. It was not a big deal, we were great friends.
We graduated high school and went our separate ways. I got married and moved away. My Mom told me that Sean also was married. It was about 8 years later when I got divorced and moved back home.
Sean knew I was back home, he called to invite me to a get together they were having. Of course I went.
When I got there, I saw so many people, and then I saw Sean, we hugged, it was great to see him. He introduced me to his wife and she was just so sweet. They told me they have 5 kids. It was a perfect family. I was really happy for him.
One month after that, my Dad passed away. It was such a hard time for me. It was a week after he passed, I was walking my dog and I heard someone say, "Donna?" I turned around and there was Sean standing there with tears running down his eyes. He hugged me so hard and softly said, "I heard about your Dad." We both cried. He walked with me for awhile.
He came to my Dads service and made sure I was ok. A couple of weeks later, Sean's Mom passed away. I was there for him just as he was for me.
Sean & his wife decided it would be best if they moved since his Mom was gone. They found a place 8 hours from here. Before the big move, Sean came to say goodbye. We talked for hours. I told him, "I wonder what would of happened if we both were not so shy back then." We looked at each other and just smiled.
It has been 2 years now and they are very happy. It is nice that we can keep in touch on facebook, telephone and texting.
I am so thankful for having such an amazing friend in my life since the first grade. It is hard to believe that we have been friends for 47 years. I love him so much and I am truly blessed that he is in my life! Friends Forever!

Thank you Ms. Paragon
Great story. Friendship is better than nothing at all. The part of the story where you say "I wonder what would have happened if we weren't so shy back then" and you both smile a quiet answer. Actually made me smile. Thank you for that.

Thanks so much for the review! I'm glad I made you smile!
This story perfectly describes a true gift that most people don’t ever get to have in life. It sounds like you were both very respectful of this gift & didn’t hurt anyone else’s feelings as you acknowledged your feelings for each other & your obstacles. Many other people don’t toe that line & then things are eventually busted up in a big way. This is a beautiful picture of the joy we can have if we don’t go for instant gratification. This is very inspiring as well as a sweet story. Thanks for sharing! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Now this one... this one has heart. I liked it very much. The idea of a life long friend is very appealing. BTW... you need a Y "Sean & his wife decided it would be best if the moved since his Mom was gone."

I loved the authenticity of this piece. First the growing pains of adolescence and then the wonderings about what might have been (we've all done that, haven't we?) But therte's another truth in this too; that sometimes you can have a closer friendship with someone of the other sex if there isn't the complication of anything physical between them. Really nicely written. Thank you for sharing.

47 years ....wow... and to think if you could have taken that chance may be isn't it... guess some people are just destined to be our friends who are close just like our heart beats.... :)
And if we do have friends who mean so much...then we are blessed....
