(Higurashi) Cicadas: When They Cry, is a brutal and gory Murder mystery, Psychological Horror, and Supernatural Horror series with many adaptations, and is a part of the When They Cry franchise.

Step into the village, dreadfulness overcomes,

Soon you'll learn to grow, learn to be numb,

As the great passage of clouds mounts your mind,

The eerie sensation will rob you blind.

If today you are the victim,

Tomorrow you maybe the perpetrator.

Here in this village, no lies can die,

May your misdeeds and wickedness run and go hide,

But eventually they'd be dug up,

And if you hope to escape, give up.

Because no one has ever escaped,

The Curse of Oyashirou-sama,

And none has been able to flee,

The village of Hinamizawa.

Author's Note

Viewer Discretion is heavily advised if you wish to explore the series as a first-timer. Its animated series (2010s) was among the most brutal and traumatizing things I've seen in my childhood and would've scarred me if I had not been a bird brain and grew up subsiding it.
But, if you somehow get past all that, there are some incredibly great moments in there too.
