Spades - Part One

Ace, King, Queen, and a 10.
All I need is a Jack.
The tension wasn’t anything I couldn’t handle. Alex was feeling it though. No doubt of that, he held his breath in anxiety and practically turned blue. On championship nights it was a given thing.
Three...damn it.
Serves me right for trusting the river. Eh, could have been worse. At least I gave good ol’ Alex a run for his money.

"Jolly good show chap," He said in a faux English accent, his face returning to normal shades. I always thought it was funny when he did that, considering his heritage..100% Hispanic. Or at least as close to it as possible. An English accent coming out of him always turned a few heads. Like putting a sombrero on Dapper Dan. Made as much sense as a fiddle in a steel drum band. At least he didn’t rub it in when he won, at least not seriously.

"If you keep winning like this I’m gonna have you deported, bro."
"Meh, you couldn’t pull that off, Haggis eater."
I shot him a glance of irritation, then broke into a smile.
"So I guess I owe you a drink too eh?"
He kicked back in his chair ",Neh, no matter Amigo."
A test, hah. Not only was he leaving it up to me, he was going to let me choose his drink too. Our own little way of seeing how sore the loser was.
By then the crowd had dissipated enough for me to be able to catch the attention of one of the floating waitresses.

"I’ll take a Heineken, and my friend here will have a ‘B***h Please’."
"Dude!"
"Just kidding Bonnie," I said between chuckles ",He’ll have and AMF, double."
"Sure thing Brandon!" Laughing, she flashed a smile and turned heels to go get our drinks.
"She’s quite the wen-"
"Don’t do that Al, c’mon."
"What? It’s all in good fun."
I know he wasn’t a rude person, but it’s just the way his eyes tracked her movement. He didn’t try to hide it either. I decided to just let it go for now.

"So any plans for the weekend?"
"Nah, not really. Mis hermanos are coming in on Saturday but it’ll just be the usual s**t. Tequila and the ‘Fox’."
"Any new faces there?"
A grin.
"Si Señor," he knew he could get away with speaking Spanish around me. "Quiere va conmigo?"
"I don’t think so, not this time."
I never really went to strip clubs. Didn’t really appeal to me, he always went though. "I’ll probably just relax at home or hit the Dive for some pool."
"Solamente? Pobrecito."

Now I had no intention of being around anyone else, not that I would shy away from it though, given the chance.
Bonnie came back with the drinks. Good timing.
"Here you go Bon Bon, keep the change." I tucked two tens into her hand hoping she wouldn’t notice and make a scene. She must have noticed though, she flashed a wink only I could see as she said thank you in her usual chipper voice. I know, it was a huge tip, but eh, she’d hit a rough patch and needed all the help she could get. I liked being able to help her out, just wished it could be more. If I could I’d-"
"Ey gringo...where are ya?"
"What? Oh, just thinking about how I’m gonna kick your sorry a*s."
"Ooo, them’s fightin’ words ya Scot."
I could tell he didn’t believe me, but that didn’t matter. Let him think what he wanted.
"Well hermano, I’m gonna split," He said, draining the last of his drink.
"Alright bud, see you Monday. Same bat time, same bat channel?"
"You’re loco Donny. Call me if you change your mind."

It probably wasn’t going to happen, but I agreed.
The evening flow started coming in, looking larger than usual. I finished off my beer and got up. Marty, one of the head dealers walked by.
"Hey Doc, Chuck buzzing around here somewhere?"
"Yeah, last I saw he was up by the box."
I thanked him and walked to the back and rapped on the door. I heard the telltale beeps of the security system through the door before it opened.

"Hey McLaren, c’mon in."
"How’s it going?"
"Not too bad, caught the last of your game a little bit ago. Tough break, thought you had him this time."
"Yeah, me too. Problem is that day to win isn’t always today."
"True true. So what can I do for you?"
"Oh, well I’ve got nothing going on tonight. Didn’t know if you could use some help on the tables."
"What? Friday night and nothing to do sonny?"
"Yeah, pretty much could use some time on the other side of the cards."
"I think we can work something out, how about the usual table in 30?"
"Sounds great boss, thanks."
With that I left to go get ready.

It looks great. You pushed it, though. Almost too much conversation and not enough plot. Almost.
Also, with the Spanish, you might want to take out "Solamente? Probecito." not everyone knows Spanish, and so only the basic words would do just fine. I know you said you only worried about the content, but also check on putting all Spanish in italics.

Otherwise, it looks great. Hope you got pt. 2 on the way :)
