American Dream

American Dream

A Poem by Cerebriation

It's just that..
This is the real ["American Dream"]
Floating down the highway with the windows down
Music ringing in your soul
Wind whipping past your face
Trees flinging by
It's not a race, man
We were already here all along
You make your own dream
You find your own pleasures
Nobody or nothing can do it for you
This might not be the part of the dream you are after
But it can be, and is, the opening scene
Just ride the wave as far as it takes you
And swim the rest out like a champ

Take the wind home with you but keep it outside
We're living the dream
We just didn't know it yet
With your face to the road and your foot on the pedal
Drive as fast as you can
Let the wind whip through the cab
Let the moon shine down onto your jeans
Pull over on the side of the road
Get out and just see it
It's everything around us
The sky and the trees and the grass
The lights and the sounds and the smells
When you get back in and get back down on the gas
The road will take you on
It will take you wherever you tell it to go
Just know this
You may already lie where you're trying to be
Don't let it slip away....

Truly an inspirational piece. Beautifully written. The American Dream is something many in other countries, hear about, and want to have. Sadly, they have the misfortune of either living under dictatorship and or living in a place, where you only earn, 100 dollars the most if not less than that amount. So hearing of the American dream, they believe that the only way they will be able to live in that dream is to migrate to the land of opportunities. I truly was blessed to grow up in Virginia, and I know it. Thank you for writing on this. Great work
