Bandaids and Lollipops

Bandaids and Lollipops

A Poem by David Scott
"

When we need comfort sometimes...

"
Bandaids and Lollipops

You have been,
are still
and will ever be,
my comfort.

When the knee
of life gets skinned,
tears drying
upon the chaffed cheek
of undeserved sorrow,
your kindness binds
a salve of wellbeing;
warm gentle attention is
my bandaid of joy.

Lessons giving
the vaccination of
cold hard fact,
reality unfairly insisting
a needled penetration,
immunizing against
childish wishes;
your smile assuring
my lollipop reward.

Today it seems impossible,
bitter and beyond
a gagged reflex,
fighting to stomach
an unthinkable, undrinkable
cup of suffering;
still stinging, longing
for bandaid comfort
and lollipop satisfaction.

You have been,
are still
and always will be,
my comfort.

This is a poem relates to me as unconditional love between parent and child and the eventuality of death of the loving parent...I may be wrong, but it was a comfort because I have been there

That second stanza grabbed me I had to read that several times. Pure poetic brilliance, I wished I wrote those exquisite lines. the rest of the poem just flowed from there so nicely penned. Great work David

Beautifully written. A child emerges seeking comfort. Could be the kind and reassuring words
we received as children that everything is going to be okay. Adult world is more compromising and accepting. One time I was very ill and I called my mom's old phone number. It had been disconnected for a long while. She had passed away. I wanted to tell her I was not feeling well so she could tell me I would be okay. Strangely enough I was not the only one who had done that. Others have admitted to it as well.

Gentle, soft, loving. When you find the person who is your comfort, you are a lucky person. There is innocence mingled with romance here. "Lollipop satisfaction"...brilliant! Lydi**
