There was a time...

There was a time...

A Poem by David Scott

…there was a time when these hearts raced

sweet love was claimed in warm embrace

harsh pain was not a part of life

before fate’s hand unsheathed her knife

today the tears are dusty trails

streaked shades of dreams and childish tales

dry eyes burn red, they cannot see

a world where there’s no you with me…

So very touching, my friend. Some pain never dies, we just learn to better live with it. Beautiful!

You are correct, as usual. I'll remember not to argue with you. 😀
Thank you Lynn.
One of my favorites of all of your work I have read. Very direct with the pain coming through along with the loss of hope for the future. I like it a great deal.

I haven't been in NC since about '77. WOW did I say that.

Very very true... I feel this same thing. Like I simply recycle words and thoughts...
i remember my first ex, when we got together in college....we were inseparable our hearts raced...but eventually the knife split us in two...and when we were splitting up, the friends in us...had red eyes.

Succinctly sad David. I was especially drawn to "fate’s hand unsheathed her knife." The yin and yang of the heart soars and plummets on the wind.

well done, my friend, again saying a lot without saying a lot, the performance of a very good poet!
