Beauty is only skin deep.

Beauty is only skin deep.

A Poem by Erin Sheffield

She stands in front of the mirror

And looks beyond the glass.

She sees a girl whos exceedingly tall

And a girl she says is fat

A stranded tear, shes accepted defeat.

Naked and shivering

Her world crashing at her feet.

The torment and the parell

By just walking into school.

She faces all her demons

When she walks into the room.

Embarrassment form being seen.

Comments that get made.

Where is HER prince charming

That comes to save the day.

Mommy dearest can't see her child cry and turns away with no remorse.

One, because shes part of the problem that her daughters life is taking its course.

Nail biting, nervous twitching,

Childish problems with no amends.

She just  needs someone there.

Someone to call her friend.

Beautiful girl please dont cry,

Your knight in shining armor is hiding in disquise.

But noones there.

Noone cares.

Shes still standing at her sink.

A break into hysteria.

More than a quiver and a shake.

Busting breaking shattering earth taking

Reality coming clear.

The lightbulb clicks but undecided mind she wants to have no fears.

She holds that peice of liquid silver in her hand

And knows this is what her future holds.

Blood lost from a slice across

Repeated motions the autopsy will show.

Vanity is a virtue

To society thats all that counts.

1 slash an open gash,

Permanent smile with no doubt.

She remembers that old saying.

And laughter rises dreaded greif.

She cuts below the surface,

Because beauty is only skin deep.
